Hey,life is a process of entertainment that is why we are working so hard today---to be in a better surrounding!!! So it's worth for decorating with you & your home with something.Think about that if you are coming to the ending, what kind of feeling about your whole life, just worked as a cow or enjoyment.

Clothing, if you know where to get it, is usually better used. If you're going to honest consignment shops instead of run-down messes, they pick and choose which clothing they'll sell.

Used furniture is a gift form above

- and used clothes from consignment shops has often been worn once or twice but is 1/3 the price of new

- and used cell phones - I bought my last 3 on e-bay and never had a problem - nor have I had a contract in 3 years

- if you can handle a used monitor from dell you can certainly handle a used computer from them

- There is also a good market in used HDTV after certain mega sports events - Super Bowl and Final 4 - people buy the darn things and plan to return them from the start

- So my advice, buy them all used (I wouldn't but a used laptop but my best friend did and loves it - and the HUGE savings - saved so much he could buy another one if this one does and still have spent less than I did for my new VISTA monster)

The new car one is by far the biggest waste of money. I learned this without ever having bought a new one. My car still looked new and was over $7000 cheaper than it cost when new. I agree with all of those "things to buy new". Buying a used tv is just asking to get something obsolete. Same thing with computers. I've never even considered buying a used or refurbished computer monitor. Not a bad idea.

@Alex: True but I think was thinking more along the lines not spending more than necessary on clothing items and taking good care of the clothes you already have. I have a few flannels myself that are of ancient descent.

You make a good point when it comes to antiques, bookshelves etc. My wife and I browse craigslist for those types of pieces all the time.

Wait a minute, used furniture is some of the best deals you can get! Used appliances are a great bargain.
What about antiques? They actually go up in value and can often be found at bargain prices from buyers who don't realize their full value. You may want a new couch or recliner but tables, bookshelves, dressers, armoires and other items are absolutely better deals used than new.
As far as your other items, you're right about cars, cell phones, computers and other high tech items.
Art is a personal matter but you can often get art from local artists for reasonable prices and not end up with Mall art posters.
