The FFL Frugal Fantasy Football
Maybe there isn’t such a thing, but let my try to justify this one. Fantasy football is almost becoming more popular than football itself. Want proof? This weekend, Tom Brady (2007 NFL MVP) was injured in what ended up being a season ending injury, just a couple minutes into the season. The reaction across the country varied, but for the most part it whent like this. “Crap, Tom Brady’s out? That really hurts my fantasy value of WR Randy Moss.”
I play fantasy football every year and I love it. Our league charges a $60 buy in and money is awarded throughout the season and for the winner of the league. It’s not exactly free, but the value goes a long way. For one, I actually look forward to Sunday’s now. By simply having a vested interested in the result of nearly every NFL game, I pay attention and root for players like they are on my own team (Vikings). I know this may not result in the most productive Sundays, but fun none the less. Secondly, fantasy football is a great way for me to stay connected with close friends across the country. We trash talk on our message board and txt each other during the games—all are little things, but go a long way in staying good friends.
While the actual buy in for fantasy football seems rather steep, the entertainment value for the dollar goes a long way. If you enjoy football, I recommend getting your closest friends together and starting a league. Who knows, you might actually win it all—of course, not if you drafted Tom Brady. $

I agree with you completely!! This may be because this is my 6th year playing fantasy football and I love it. Last year I played in two leagues and ended up doubling my money in one league and breaking even in the other. You are right about spending Sunday watching games, but it’s cheaper than going shopping or even to a movie. And over the season, the $60 comes out to be $3.53 a week. Now that’s frugal :o)
