Free Ways and Applications to Get the Most from Your BlackBerry
Do you own a BlackBerry and feel like you should be milking it for more than just sending text messages/emails and making phone calls? Well if you don’t, then what are you lugging around that clunker for anyways?
The first thing I would recommend for BlackBerry users is to purchase a Flash memory card (micro SDHC). The size of the card you purchase depends on what you will be using your phone for, but generally an 8GB card will be more than enough for the average user. Don’t worry, they don’t cost too much, especially if you order one online. Newegg sells an 8GB card for just 16.99 w/ free shipping. This card will allow you to store pictures, videos, music and more—it’s a must for all BlackBerry owners.
Music. An iPod isn’t the end all of MP3 players, BlackBerries hold their own pretty well in this category and if your going to be lugging it around anyways, you might as well use it for multiple purposes. How do you put music on your BlackBerry? Its pretty easy and free if you use the mp3’s you already own. Just connect your BlackBerry to your computer (it should see it as another drive) and then just copy over your mp3’s into your music folder. That’s all there is to it.
Connect your BlackBerry to Your Car’s Stereo. Another way I like to use music on my BlackBerry is by hooking it up to my car speakers, newer cars can do this wirelessly through Bluetooth but older vehicles can hook up to your BlackBerry with a RCA to stereo cable or even through the radio station with a transmitter. Hooking your phone up to your car like this also allows you to talk on the phone over the speakers, which is cool for you but annoying for your friend riding shotgun.
Google Mobile Application. Another must in BlackBerry use is to download and install the Google Mobile Application. Google’s FREE application allows you to get Google maps, sync your phone up to your Gmail account, watch YouTube videos, and play with Google Buzz (I still haven’t really gotten into this yet). The Google Maps function is reason enough to download this on your BlackBerry, this can help you get out of a jam or it can help you find the nearest Chipotle!
Spruce Up Your BlackBerry with the iPhone Theme. So your upset your work only hands out BlackBerries and will never go big with the iPhones? Join the club, however, that doesn’t mean your BlackBerry can’t at least look like an iPhone. Simply download this FREE theme to spruce up your phone’s appearance. Don’t let this theme fool, it still won’t be a touch screen.
Control Your Computer with Your BlackBerry. If you often hook up your computer to your TV to watch online videos, shows, or movies and your sick of getting up and walking over to your computer everytime you want to change something, try downloading another FREE application called bluCTRL, which allows you to use your BlackBerry as the mouse and keyboard for your computer. In order for it to work, your computer must use Bluetooth and if it’s older and doesn’t have onboard Bluetooth, no problem, you can buy a Bluetooth USB Dongle for around $6 which will do the trick. This free application impresses friends and makes being lazy even lazier.
